Primatene is used to treat bronchial asthma and to relieve
its symptoms. Using Primatene one feels relief from wheezing,
cough, shortness of breath and tightness of chest. Primatene
helps to restore free breathing and to loosen phlegm. Bronchial
passageways get rid of the bothersome mucus, thin bronchial
secretions are loosened and bronchial tubes are drained.
Primatene contains ephedrine and guaifenesin. Ephedrine
HCL works as bronchodilator and due to its decongestant
properties it helps greatly to treat cold, flu, asthma
and allergy. Ephedrine HCL is also known as a strong appetite
suppressant and that is the reason why one experiences
loss of appetite taking Primatene. Guaifenesin is an expectorant
and it acts on definite receptors causing the decrease
in the thickness of bronchial secretions. It draws water
into bronchi causing more productive cough and the mucus
is removed.
Primatene is a strong drug and you shouldn't take without
doctor's recommendation.
Don't use Primatene if you are taking MAOI (monoamine
oxidase inhibitor to treat emotional and psychiatric conditions,
Parkinson's disease).
Consult the doctor before taking Primatene if you suffer
from high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, heart disease,
thyroid disease, diabetes, chronic cough.
Side effects of Primatene include sleeplessness, tremor,
loss of appetite, nausea. You may not experience them/
but if you do and it disturbs you too much, you'd better
consult your doctor.
